Immediate Actions and Recommendations in Response to the Recent MEXC Situation
01 Withdraw to a self-custody wallet. We recommend that users and businesses holding funds on MEXC withdraw them to a self-custody wallet they control. Verify the address and network, and send a small test amount first.
02 Avoid direct withdrawals to other centralized exchanges. We do not recommend withdrawing from MEXC directly to another centralized exchange (CEX). Deposit holds for risk review have been seen at exchanges such as Gate.io and OKX.
03 Do not top up crypto cards with MEXC funds. Card issuers and their partners are restricting accounts or rejecting top-ups that trace back to MEXC.
04 Keep source-of-funds records. Save the MEXC withdrawal record, TxID, account statement and trade history. Exchanges may ask for these later.
05 Pause business routing via MEXC. Businesses should suspend treasury, OTC or customer flows that move funds to or from MEXC until further review.
06 Assess exposure. Identify accounts, wallets and pending transactions with direct MEXC exposure in the last 90 days.
07 Track held deposits. Users with a held deposit should note the review deadline the exchange gives and contact its support if the funds are not credited by then.
08 Update screening rules. Treat MEXC as a high-risk counterparty in wallet screening and customer risk assessment.
09 Monitor. Watch for Federal Register publication (starts the 30-day clock), MEXC statements and exchange policy notices.
