$BTC is sitting on support. However, underneath it a large cluster of long liquidations will be triggered. Another cluster sits around $75k. Overhead, shorts liquidations have piled up above $85k all week. The lower clusters currently appear more fragile than those above.

Buyers kept refilling the $BTC book today. The low timeframe view shows that the large bids that sat at $80k for the last week were filled and new large bids were placed, pushing price up systematically. Now we see the support level under $80k weakening again.

$BTC sellers capitulated again yesterday. Every burst of loss selling came right at a local bottom: early August, mid-August and mid-September. Profit taking has slowed since the September high. If the pattern holds, yesterday's selling just above $80k would mark the floor.

Weekend selling has hit altcoins hard. As fear from equities spills into crypto, the typical altcoin is down over 5%. If the weekend closes like this it would be the largest weekend drop since April. Since the $BTC low in June, buying Friday and selling Sunday was profitable.

Bitcoin trades near $82k after a quiet week that held above $80k. The selling behind the early October slide eased, but spot and ETF buyers have not returned, while capital keeps moving into newer hands on-chain. Read the latest Market Pulse 👈

Altcoin leverage is still running hot. Prices have pulled back since leverage peaked earlier this month, yet over 40% of large caps still sit near their highest leverage of the year. In mid caps, that share is at a yearly high. A deeper drop would put many longs at risk.

Short-term profit-taking has weighed on $BTC. Two weeks ago we flagged short-term holders in profit sending the largest share of exchange inflows in a year. This selling has weighed on price since. The flow has now eased back to its average yearly level.

ETF buyers came back in size yesterday. US spot $BTC ETFs took in $663M, the most in a day since September, and all of it went into BlackRock's IBIT. That single day erased the funds' net outflows for October. Follow-through would confirm the demand is back.

The Q4 levels for $BTC have held so far. Last month, together with @colin_basco and the @CoinbaseInsto team we put resistance at $87K to $87.8K in our Charting Crypto report. We read the data as near-term consolidation. Price stalled there and ranged below it ever since. A break out of the range is likely to spark significant volatility, although another overhead supply cluster sits around $90k. $BTC sellers have been taking losses below $80k. Last week brought the longest run of daily net realized losses since mid-August. The August and September loss clusters both formed at the local lows. A hold above $75k would fit that pattern.

$BTC trades near $78k on Monday after a Thursday slide below $80k. Perpetual sellers drove the drop, yet longs keep paying up in funding and options traders are buying protection, while spot buyers held steady. Read our latest BTC Market Pulse 👇

$BTC traders are still here after the retrace. Before the spike in August, volume had sunk to its lowest since 2023. Despite BTC pulling back over the last weeks, volume has stayed above this August level. This indicates sustained interest in crypto after months of apathy.

Short-term holders are back underwater. Yesterday's drop pushed about 60% of the $BTC held by recent buyers below its cost basis. A day earlier, they were back in profit. For now, that lowers the risk of recent buyers cashing out into strength.

Leverage grew through the $BTC selloff. Open interest climbed by about $1B during the US session drop, and by almost $500M more into today's US session. Funding cooled slightly but is now ramping up again. Longs look to be stepping back in.

$BTC has rarely tracked equities this closely. Over the last 30 US sessions, the correlation with the S&P 500 reached 0.80. Since 2020 it has spent most of its time far below that. Despite the talk of bitcoin's relative strength, macro sets the direction for now.

Hyperliquid whales are adding to their $BTC shorts. Their net positioning turned short 2 weeks ago after 7 months of being long. Short exposure is now the largest since October 2025. The last time they were this short, price moved down considerably.
