Last night one of the highest performing Hyperliquid vaults built up a large short in kPEPE, representing nearly 25% of all open interest on the exchange. It opened a small kPEPE short on Sunday and kept adding through Monday as the price rose. By 4:30pm EST yesterday the short was 712M kPEPE, about $3.5M. Over the next several hours, they added to the position aggressively through a TWAP and by 8PM EST, held 26% of all open interest, worth roughly $18M. As price began to move against them, they quickly started to close the position, buying back everything in 45 minutes. In this time the price squeezed +7.5% higher from $0.004755 to $0.00511 and the vault ended up with a $587k net loss on the trade. They bought $1.9mm at an average of $0.0428, were up $300k two days later, took no profits, and sold the whole position on the way back down for a $75k loss. They restarted on Oct 8 and have kept buying via TWAP for three days straight, about $545k a day. They are now long 20.2mm STRK ($2.4mm) with an average entry of $0.0792 and are up $776k.
